Here are your assignments for next class, Tuesday, January 20:

• Your typed topic assignment is due. Read the assignment page for questions. (I'll be out of e-mail range this weekend.)

• Read Chapters 1-4! (4 is an addition, but short) Also, read Page 33 and re-read pages 65-67.

• Bring a magazine to class next Tuesday and do the exercise on page 60. Be prepared to discuss your answers.

• Be on the lookout for arguments all around you: read newspapers' op-ed pages, notice advertisements, listen to NPR or tune into the News Hour with Jim Leher. Notice when you or your friends make a claim and whether you (or they) back it up, or not.

• Have fun this break.
