The Writing Center Consultations

Hi,

Several of you have asked what the Writing Center (220 Fretwell) will do to help you with your work. Here are the general areas consultations cover:

• Understanding assignment
  
• Understanding instructor feedback/Generating questions for instructor
• Main point, thesis, controlling idea, central idea
• Content development, idea invention
• Research
• Organization
• Drafting
  
• Revision
• Proofreading & editing
• ELL trouble spots
• Exam writing strategies
• Documentation of sources & avoiding plagiarism (MLA, APA, Chicago styles)

A number of students have used the center and found it helpful. Hope you'll consider it, as needed, especially for such recurrent issues as paragraph breaks, comma usage, run-on sentences, sentence fragments: basic grammatical errors that we don't cover in class.
